Not my favourite subject…however, general population seems to be using windoze so here it is….

1. Grab the latest and greatest of ConsoleOne from novell website. (as of July 08 its 1.3.6h).
2. Grab also the latest and greatest of Novell Client for Windows from the website (4.3.1 SP1).

3. Install first the Novell Client prior installing ConsoleOne. Install ConsoleOne after successfully installing Novell Client

4. Run the Novell Client….you will have to fill in the login dialog box..
i. admin ID
ii. admin Password
iii. server IP.
iv. context

5. Once you are logged from the Novell Client….run the ConsoleOne and logged into your e-Directory

That’s it..

The linux-version ConsoleOne does not include the groupwise snapins…you’ll have to download the whole groupwise-linux iso from Novell website or copy the file

novell-groupwise-admin-7.0-xxxxxxxx.i386.rpm from the GroupWise Installation CD.

as always, since this is an rpm file, run alien to convert it to .deb installation file

**** you have to be root ******
1. alien -v -d novell-groupwise-admin-7.0-xxxxxxxx.i386.rpm

2. install the .deb file created by alien

3. Modify the ConsoleOne file : location /usr/ConsoleOne/bin/ConsoleOne

change the LD_LIBRARY_PATH

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=”/usr/lib:/opt/novell/lib:/opt/novell/eDirectory/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH”

change it to

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=”/usr/lib:/usr/ConsoleOne/bin:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH”

4. you should be able to ConsoleOne with Groupwise snapins now

5. However, you will have to mount the groupwise folder from the groupwise server in order to connect via ConsoleOne

use samba to share the groupwise folder. mount the shared folder using the mount.cifs command or smbmount

6. When connecting to groupwise server point the mount folder as this is where wpdomain.db is stored

7. End

This is what ive found from novell website….It works on Ubuntu (i386) and should work on all Debian-based distros…

1. Download the consoleone sourcefile from novell website

2. install alien
aptitude install alien

3. untar the consoleone package

tar -xvzf c1_136e-linux.tar.gz

4. Follow the next steps

i. cd linux

ii. alien -v -d *rpm

it will then compile the rpm package into deb packages

5. install the consoleone using the dpkg command

dpkg -i *deb

6. Run the console one with this command
/usr/ConsoleOne/bin/ConsoleOne
